Sunwarrior Warrior Blend Review: A Good Plant-Based Protein Powder?

If you are in the market for a good plant-based protein powder, then hopefully this review of Sunwarrior Warrior Blend protein powder is helpful.

To get it out of the way, I think this protein powder is very good and I do personally use it myself. But I do know that everything is not a one-size fits all option. So, to help you out, I will go into all the relevant details in this article.

First, I will go into the background of the company. Then, I will break down all the specific pros and cons of the protein powder as well as my opinion on the flavors. Next, I will go into how and why I personally use it. And finally, I will finish it off by going over who I think this protein is perfect for.

Let’s get into it!

Company Background

sunwarrior logoSo, if you haven’t heard of Sunwarrior before, they are a rather large brand that produces a variety of plant-based proteins and superfood products. You can usually find their products in health food stores and even large nationwide supplement stores.

Their stated mission is to “guide individuals on their path to self-actualization”, which seems to be right in line with what I am trying to achieve with Becoming My Hero.

Since they have been around since 2007, you can rest assured that they are a trustworthy company with a proven track record. That track record includes developing high-quality products from sustainable and organic ingredients. And to top it off, they make sure that they are packaged in recycled and recyclable containers.

It is easy to see that Sunwarrior is a company that takes their mission seriously.

Sunwarrior Warrior Blend Review

As I mentioned earlier, I think this is an excellent choice for a plant-based protein powder, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have drawbacks. Let’s take a look at the specific positives and negatives from this protein blend.

Pros

1. Fermented Pea Protein

protein from peas in a podIt is not too often that you find fermented protein in the ingredients list in a protein powder. That is pretty unfortunate since the fermentation process has a lot of benefits.

First off, if you are unfamiliar what all of this means, essentially fermentation is a process where bacteria pre-digests the protein.

By doing this, it makes it easier for us to digest. This could come in handy if you are prone to digestive issues. I do notice that some protein powders give me a lot of gas and bloating. I definitely notice a reduction in those when taking this specific formula.

Also, fermented protein is absorbed easier, has a greater bio-availability of nutrients, and has less anti-nutrients.

2. Complete Essential Amino Acid Profile

Since many plant-based proteins are incomplete proteins, it is essential to choose a protein blend with a complete amino acid profile. This way, you are getting all the essential amino acids that are needed for muscle building and preservation.

This specific blend does contain all 9 essential amino acids. It even puts the complete profile on the packaging, which includes the specific amounts.

I really like that added touch.

3. Low Calorie/Low Carb/Keto-Friendly

keto friendlyIn each scoop of this protein, you will get 100 calories. And the macronutrient breakdown is 2 grams of fat, 2 grams of carbs, and 18 grams of protein.

So, this protein powder is essentially an isolate, which would come in handy for anyone on a calorie or carbohydrate restricted diet.

4. Organic Ingredients

As I have mentioned before (and I will mention over and over), conventional foods pose a large risk to your health. Many foods are sprayed with chemicals like glyphosate, which can be very hazardous to your health.

Organic ingredients are free from these chemical pesticides, so I try to only buy organic products.

5. Moderately Priced

For all the value you are getting in this protein powder, I was delightfully surprised that it is moderately priced.

In comparison to other organic and plant-based protein powders, it is one of the least expensive in terms of grams of protein per dollar.

Cons

1. Doesn’t Mix Well

blending protein drinkPersonally, for me, I don’t find this protein to be the easiest to mix. Although I have heard other people with different experience and views on this.

For full disclosure, I mix my protein powders by shaking them in a mason jar. And no matter how hard or how long I shake it, it is always still clumpy. On top of that, there are usually clumps that are stuck to the side of the glass jar that I have to stir with a spoon.

If you are the type of person that mostly uses protein powder in a blender with smoothies or milkshakes, then this wouldn’t apply to you.

Personally, I find it a little annoying, but it is definitely far from a deal-breaker.

2. Nut Allergy?

This product is manufactured in a facility that processes nuts. So, if you are highly allergic to nuts, you may want to take extra precaution.

Taste/Flavors

According to the brand website, Sunwarrior Warrior Blend comes in 6 different flavors. The options are chocolate, vanilla, mocha, berry, unflavored, and pumpkin spice.

I personally have used the chocolate and the vanilla. When it comes to protein powder, normally I am a fan of chocolate. But in this instance, I think the vanilla is a much better flavor.

Overall, flavor-wise I would rate the vanilla a 7/10 and the chocolate a 6.5/10. So all in all I would say that the taste is decent to good, but far from my favorite.

I may try some of the other flavors down the line and give you an update if I do.

How (and Why) I Use It

whyAs I mentioned in another article Four Sigmatic is my favorite protein ever. But as I mentioned in the Four Sigmatic protein powder review, it is pretty expensive. So, there are three main reasons I use Sunwarrior Warrior blend as well.

First off, by using both proteins on a regular basis I get to cut down my costs.

Secondly, using both helps me to get a diversity of nutrients and amino acids so I can ensure I am building and maintaining as much muscle as possible.

And finally, since the Sunwarrior blend is lower in calories, I find it more practical when I am in a fat-burning phase.

Who Is this For?

The Sunwarrior Warrior Blend protein powder would be perfect for two types of people.

  1. People who are looking for a high-quality organic plant-based protein at a moderate price.
  2. People who are looking for a high-quality organic plant-based protein and are restricting carbs or calories. For example, those who are on a Keto diet, or who are in a fat-burning phase.

Conclusion

I hoped that you found this review of Sunwarrior Warrior Blend protein useful. Overall, I think this is an excellent plant-based option.

The company, the ingredients, and the packaging are all carefully thought out. It is no secret why Sunwarrior is having a lot of success.

It is well deserved.
